Reducing Natural Resource Consumption for Primary Packaging Manufacturing

Our Circular Economy innovation program is dedicated to reducing natural resource consumption related to processes and products over their entire life cycles.

To this extent, for example, we give new purpose to material such as glass and plastics scraps that would otherwise become trash.

Additionally, we introduced Neural Network models in our forming processes. The benefits include a reduction in false rejects, thereby reducing overall wastage and making production more sustainable.

Use of Alternative Materials in Drug Containment Solutions: Biopolymers and Recycled Plastic

Ready-To-Use drug containers require single-use polymers for pharmaceutical secondary packaging (Nest and Tub), to help ensure sterility and processability.

Indeed, a bio-circular version of polystyrene and polypropylene that is used to produce secondary packaging of syringes has been identified.

The raw material for producing polymers is obtained from renewably sourced feedstocks derived solely from waste. This reduces fossil resources consumption and emissions associated with the life cycle of the product while ensuring the same level of quality. Hence, Stevanato Group could be ISCC+ certification ready, as done in the past, in compliance with the mass balance approach, which helps support continued trust among customers and throughout the value chain.

Sustainable Sterilization Technique with EZ-fill Smart®

In our Drug Containment Solutions portfolio, EZ-fill Smart® - a high-end Ready-To-Use (RTU) solution platform - offers Low-Temperature VHP as sterilization method, a more environmentally-friendly sterilization technique compared with traditional Ethylene Oxide (EtO) sterilization that can result in improved safety and leans towards current FDA expectations.

Moreover, the LT VHP sterilization method can be managed in-house, thus avoiding the freight to external partners.

Mitigating Carbon Impact: Focus on Laser-Based Technologies for Primary Packaging Manufacturing

We are developing new lines with the purpose of reducing capital expenditures and industrial costs, increasing productivity, and improving in-line quality control.

The Engineering division has made significant strides in innovation, focusing on mitigating the carbon impact of its equipment manufacturing, particularly in the realm of glass modification reliant on fossil fuels.

The company has been exploring alternative technologies to traditional manufacturing processes, with a particular focus on laser-based innovations. Laser technology offers precision and efficiency, reducing energy consumption and material waste while maintaining the high quality and reliability that characterize Stevanato Group’s products.
